With over 250 kilometres of coastline, Lemnos has beaches to rival anywhere in Greece — and far fewer people on them. You will find long stretches of golden and white sand, shallow turquoise bays perfect for children, wind-swept shores beloved by surfers, and even desert-like dunes.
Here are the beaches worth planning your days around, from the lively Blue Flag bays near Myrina to the wild corners of the north and east.
Agios Ioannis (Kaspakas)
On the west coast below the village of Kaspakas, Agios Ioannis is a long, sandy Blue Flag beach with shallow, calm water — and the island's most photographed taverna, built right into the volcanic rocks at the water's edge. Facing west, it is one of the finest places on Lemnos to watch the sun sink into the Aegean. It sits just 1.5 kilometres from our villas.
Platy Beach
Around 1.5 kilometres south of Myrina, Platy is the island's most organised beach: a kilometre of fine golden sand with sunbeds, beach bars, tavernas and watersports, and Blue Flag water quality. It is lively and family-friendly, and a favourite for sunset drinks in summer.
Thanos Beach
A short drive beyond Platy, Thanos is a wide bay of white sand set against green hills and dark volcanic cliffs — one of the most striking landscapes on the island. Also a Blue Flag beach, it is semi-organised and excellent for swimming and snorkelling in its clear, emerald-tinged water.
Nevgatis (Nefkasia)
Often named among the most beautiful beaches in Greece, Nevgatis lies on the south coast between Thanos and Kontias. Backed by low hills and open to glorious sunsets, its long expanse of pale sand and shallow water stays remarkably uncrowded even in high season.
Gomati & the Sand Dunes
On the north coast, Gomati is home to the famous sand dunes of Lemnos — a vast, wind-sculpted desert landscape that meets the open Aegean. It is wild and largely unorganised, so bring water and shade, but the scenery is like nowhere else on the island.
Keros Bay
On the east coast, the long sandy sweep of Keros is a magnet for windsurfers and kitesurfers, who come for the dependable summer winds and shallow shore. Quiet and undeveloped, it is ideal for those who want space, sport and a sense of the island's untamed side.
Riha Nera & Town Beaches
If you are staying in Myrina, you do not have to go far for a swim. Riha Nera, just north of the centre, has shallow, warm water that is perfect for young children, while Romeikos Gialos offers a beach right beneath the castle, with cafés and tavernas steps away.
